The dodecacarbonyltetracobalt complexes of hepta-2,5-diynyl-1,7-diol derivatives 3 and 4 undergo selective monosubstitution in the presence of BF3-OEt2. Disubstitution by two different or identical nucleophiles may also be accomplished.
