Novel cyclopentadienylruthenium enolate complexes, Ru+Cp(NCCRCO2Et)-(PPh3)2 (1) and Ru+Cp*(NCCRCO2Et)-(PPh3)2 (2) have been prepared by the reactions of RuClCp(PPh3)2 and RuClCp*(PPh3)2 with the corresponding sodium 1-cyano-1-ethoxycarbonylmethanides. The enolate complexes 1 and 2 are highly efficient catalysts for aldol and Michael reactions of nitriles.
