Abstract
Purpose: Abundant hemorrhage after prostatic or bladder surgery requires that, in the critical phase, the emergency doctor should consider the use of hemostatic strategies which present as little stress as possible to the patient. In this connection the percutaneous transversal embolization (PTE) of the internal iliac arteries on both sides shows to be extremely efficient.Material and Methods: PTE was used on 27 patient with persistent, hardly controllable hemorrhage after surgery in the prostatic or bladder areas. Results: In 85 % of the cases the hemorrhage was promptly and permanently stopped. Conclusions: PTE seems to be an appropriate, early-to-use alternative measure for high-risk re-operative interventions.
