Summary
Psychosocial as well as genetic factors contribute to the pathogenesis of anxiety disorders. Clinical studies have in particular provided evidence for a genetic liability to panic disorder of about 48 %. Evidence for the association of genes with panic disorder, but also with other anxiety disorders has been reported. These findings may provide the basis for the development of innovative therapies.
Key Words
anxiety disorders - panic disorder - heritability - association studies - monoamine oxidase A - intermediate phenotypes
