ABSTRACT

Experience involving the utilization of autologous tissue injections in more than 2000 procedures over some 17 years is presented. Details of harvesting and preparing the tissue, the injection technique as well as the cryopreservation of unused tissue are described. Two types of autologous tissues were employed to include centrifuged fat harvested with low suction and a “tissue cocktail” composed of diced dermis, fat, and muscle. The rationale for utilization of these with the soft tissue substitutes is discussed. Emphasis is on the need for repetitive injections (in most patients, three) and the use of this modality in combination with other excisional and repositional procedures. Representative pre- and postoperative photographs of treated patients are included.
