ABSTRACT
This review of contemporary techniques in facial bone reconstruction is written from the perspective of its specific application to defects from benign or malignant tumor resection. These bone defects pose unique reconstructive considerations because of their frequently large size, exposure to the oral cavity and paranasal sinuses, and potentially compromised wound beds due to radiation or loss of soft tissue lining, or both. The role of vascularized bone flaps, allograft bone, metal plating techniques with advances in fixation biomaterial technology, and distraction osteogenesis is discussed for these facial bone defects.
