Significance
(+)-Discodermolide is a potent cytotoxic polyketide isolated the rare Caribbean marine sponge Discodermia dissoluta. The molecule exhibits both immunosuppressive and anti-proliferative biological activity and is currently being developed as an anti-cancer drug by Novartis.
