Abstract
We describe a technique used to provide urinary continence to a group of teenagers with neuropathic bladders. The technique gives continence to a urinary reservoir by utilising the appendix as a continent catheterisable conduit. Of the first five patients to have this procedure performed in this institute, four became fully continent. We feel that this procedure can be of great benefit to both children and adults with urinary incontinence.
Zusammenfassung
Es wird eine Technik zur Behandlung der Urininkontinenz beschrieben, die bei 5 Teenagern im Alter von 13 bis 18 Jahren angewandt wurde. Es handelte sich vorwiegend um Patienten mit Myelomeningozele und Urininkontinenz.
Bei der Technik handelte es sich um die Verwendung des Appendix, als katheterisierbare Verbindung zu einem, aus Zökum und terminalem Ileum geschaffenen Urinreservoir. Die behandelten ersten 5 Patienten wurden mittels Selbstkatheterisierung auf diese Weise vollständig kontinent. Die Autoren glauben daher, daß die vorgestellte Behandlung von großem Nutzen für Kinder und Erwachsene mit Urininkontinenz ist.
