ABSTRACT

Since the first reported abdominoplasty in 1899, many technical refinements have dramatically improved results. The addition of concurrent tumescent liposuction, aggressive myofascial tightening, and subscarpal fat excision is responsible for achieving a significantly enhanced postoperative contour. Patient involvement in the decision-making process and individualizing the procedure with respect to the patient's wishes and desires further enhances the final outcome and ensures greater patient satisfaction. Procedure design, virtual elimination of interoperative bleeding, respect for the neurovascular structures of the abdomen, and careful tissue-handling techniques minimize complications. Employing these concepts for advanced abdominoplasty combined with active patient input achieves consistent desirable results and a high degree of patient satisfaction.
