ABSTRACT
A significant aspect of the art and science of rhinoplasty is the question of timing, or, when or when not to proceed with a surgical procedure on a child's nose. Surgery in children and adolescents is always a delicate balance of treating the functional deformity, while minimizing any inhibition to growth and development. The appropriate time to operate on the adolescent's nose for functional and aesthetic reasons has remained a controversy for many years among surgeons performing rhinoplasty surgery. This controversy warrants a review of objective data regarding nasal surgery and a discussion of the physical and emotional issues that affect surgery in children.
