Bis auf die Impulskontrollstörungen im engeren Sinne werden die meisten der einzelnen Störungsbilder heutzutage entweder dem Spektrum der Verhaltenssüchte oder den Zwangsstörungen zugeordnet und unterscheiden sich phänomenologisch u.a. durch die mit ihnen einhergehenden ich-syntonen oder ich-dystonen Affekte.
