Digitale Fertigung von Retainern mittels CAD/CAM
Digital production of retainers using Cad/CamZusammenfassung
Abstract
In orthodontics, retention plays a decisive role in ensuring that the achieved tooth and jaw positions remain stable in the long term. After completion of active orthodontic treatment, it therefore makes sense to stabilize the treatment result achieved by means of fixed or removable retention appliances in order to prevent recurrence1–2, but also to ensure stability against age-related changes in the bony jaw bases and tooth positions. In principle, each type of retention appliance has specific advantages and disadvantages in terms of compliance requirements, oral hygiene, comfort and the previously treated malocclusion.
Advances in digital technology are also empowering new possibilities for the fabrication of fixed and removable retainers. Compared to direct chairside fabrication or manually fabricated retainers in the laboratory, the integration of digitally fabricated retainers into everyday clinical practice has significant advantages in terms of precision, efficiency and adaptability.
