Abstract

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

Harnwegsinfektionen bei Kindern sind ein häufiges Krankheitsbild, wobei die Symptomatik unspezifisch und die Folgen insbesondere bei Therapieverzögerung schwer sein können. Die korrekte Interpretation des Urinbefundes und Entscheidung über eine Therapieeinleitung sind daher für jede/n KinderärztIn essenziell, um die Entwicklung chronischer Nierenfunktionseinschränkungen oder gar den Verlust einer Niere zu vermeiden.

ABSTRACT

Urinary tract infections are a common condition in children. Signs and symptoms may be unspecific and consequences of a delayed therapy initiation can be severe. The correct interpretation of urine findings as well as the decision whether or not to start an antibacterial therapy are essential skills for every pediatrician to prevent young patients from chronic kidney damage – or worse – organ loss.
