Pflanzliche Wachstumsbremse

Je älter Männer sind, desto häufiger wird bei ihnen eine gutartige Prostatavergrößerung diagnostiziert. Warum die Prostata mit zunehmendem Alter wächst, ist noch nicht vollständig erforscht. Nach heutigem Kenntnisstand spielt dabei das aus Testosteron gebildete Dihydrotestosteron eine wichtige Rolle. Die Sägepalme (Serenoa repens, Synonym: Sabal serrulata) kann die Entstehung von Dihydrotestosteron hemmen.
