Früherkennung und -behandlung der Borderline-Persönlichkeitsstörung
Early detection and treatment of borderline personality disorder
Abstract
Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by significant impairments in both impulse and affect regulation alongside pronounced disturbances in self-image and interpersonal relationships. It is still widely believed that BPD should only be diagnosed and treated in adulthood. However, empirical evidence suggests that BPD typically first manifests in adolescence and can be reliably diagnosed during this stage of life. Early diagnosis is crucial for early intervention, aiming to prevent negative long-term consequences (e. g. dropping out of school or social isolation) for the affected youth. First-line treatment is outpatient, disorder-specific psychotherapy.
