Abstract
The cerebrospinal fluid in a girl with hydranencephaly was studied during different functional states of her ventriculo-venous shunt from the age of 3 months to 4 years. When the shunt was working satisfactorily the amino acids showed almost normal distribution ratios between plasma and ventricular fluid. These ratios changed when the shunt was blocked, indicating a disturbed amino acid transport or increased breakdown of protein. The amino acid pattern of the spinal fluid deviated only slightly from the normal suggesting the spinal fluid to be derived extraventricularly.
Zusammenfassung
Der Liquor cerebrospinalis wurde bei einem Mädchen mit Hydranenzephalie im Alter zwischen 3 Monaten und 4 Jahren hinsichtlich seines Aminosäuregehaltes untersucht. Bei suffizientem Shunt war die Aminosäureverteilung zwischen Plasma und Ventrikelliquor normal. Diese Verteilung änderte sich sofort bei einer Verlegung des Shunts, die wahrscheinlich eine Störung im Aminosäuretransport oder im Eiweißabbau verursacht.
