Aufgaben der Podologie – Bedeutung bei diabetischen Patienten

Das Wort Podologie kommt aus dem Griechischen (Podos = der Fuß, Logos = Lehre) und bedeutet die Lehre vom Fuß. Definiert ist die Podologie als die nichtärztliche Heilkunde am Fuß. Sie ist die Fachbehandlung des Fußes im ärztlichen Vorfeld und ein Heilberuf, der nichts mit der kosmetischen Fußpflege zu tun hat. In der Podologie werden medizinische Arbeitstechniken mit entsprechenden Instrumenten am Fuß durchgeführt, die der Humanmediziner nicht gelernt hat, weshalb eine interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit zwingend erforderlich ist.

The term podology comes from the Greek (podos = foot; logos = word) and is concerned with the science of the foot. Podology is defined as the nonmedical care of the foot, provides professional care of the foot outside the medical domain and has nothing to do with cosmetic foot care. Since podology (also termed podiatry) has available a range of medically relevant therapeutic measures, in the use of which the physician has received no training, interdisciplinary cooperation is essential.
