Eine der häufigsten Krankheiten bei älteren Katzen ist die chronische Niereninsuffizienz mit einer Prävalenz von ca. 10 %. Besonders problematisch ist, dass die Symptome der Erkrankung aufgrund ihres schleichenden Verlaufs von den Tierbesitzern oft nicht als Krankheitszeichen wahrgenommen werden. Grundlagen für ein effektives Management der chronischen Niereninsuffizienz sind die regelmäßige Kontrolle des klinischen Zustandes des Patienten sowie der entsprechenden Laborparameter.
