Abstract
Stroke patients younger than 60 years of age frequently present with rare aetiologies of stroke. It is important to detect these rare aetiologies to initiate specific therapy to prevent future strokes in these patients. Therefore, ischaemic stroke in young patients should not be classified as cryptogenic unless a complete diagnostic work-up has been performed. This selected literature review covers rare stroke aetiologies, including vascular disorders, Morbus Fabry, Moyamoya or haematological disorders, to give the reader a general overview.
