Im Bereich rationale Antiinfektiva-Verordnung im Krankenhaus existiert ein strukturelles und personelles Defizit in Deutschland. Um dies möglichst rasch zu reduzieren, wurde eine Fortbildung zum Thema Antibiotic Stewardship (ABS) konzipiert, mit der innerhalb von 4 – 5 Jahren mindestens 200 Ärzte/Apotheker intensiv in diesem Bereich geschult werden sollen. Die Fortbildung beinhaltet ingesamt 4 Wochenkurse und eine Praxisphase. Die Fortbildung wird unterstützt vom Bundesministerium für Gesundheit. Die Fortbildungskurse werden mittlerweile intensiv genutzt. Damit kann eine kurz- bis mittelfristige Qualitätsverbesserung in den Kliniken erzielt werden. Langfristig müssen Aus- und Weiterbildung in diesem Bereich verbessert werden
