Pure Ovarian Tuberculosis as a Surprising Cause of Adnexal Mass in an Adolescent

Introduction

Genitourinary tuberculosis is a form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis and it accounts for 4 to 15% of all tuberculosis cases.[1] Ovarian tuberculosis is a well-known cause of ovarian mass and ascites among young adult women in developing countries and immunocompromised patients in industrialized countries.[2] However, it is very uncommon to encounter tuberculosis in adnexal structures in children because kidneys and ureters are mostly affected in this age group.[1] Herein, we present a case of ovarian tuberculosis in an adolescent girl presenting with bilateral ovarian mass and no previous history of pulmonary tuberculosis.
