Einleitung

Die Parodontitis ist eine entzündliche Erkrankung der Mundhöhle, die unbehandelt zu Zahnverlust führt. Darüber hinaus ist es bekannt, dass Parodontalerkrankungen neben lokalen Entzündungsreaktionen auch systemische Erkrankungsformen wie Atherosklerose als Risikofaktor mit beeinflussen [1].

Die subgingivale Plaque ist der primäre ätiologische Faktor, welcher die Progression der Parodontitis bei empfänglichen Individuen bestimmt und schließlich zum Verlust von zahntragenden Strukturen, dem sog. Attachment führt.
