Die Chronische Nierenerkrankung (CNE) ist eine häufig diagnostizierte Erkrankung, die insbesondere in der geriatrischen (> 9 Jahre) Katzenpopulation eine hohe Prävalenz aufweist. Wichtig ist ein umfassendes Verständnis der Diagnostik, damit eine frühzeitige Diagnose gestellt und die geeignete Behandlung eingeleitet werden kann. Die International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) hat ein Klassifikationsschema eingeführt, das die Überwachung und Behandlung von Katzen mit CNE unterstützen soll [[2]].
