Abstract
There are several conservative treatment modalities for lateral epicondylopathy (tennis elbow). The effectiveness of strengthening exercises alone is not evident in intervention studies, due to the usage of other physiotherapeutic interventions in these studies.
This systematic review and meta-analysis portrays the effectiveness of wrist extensor strengthening exercise in tennis elbow for the outcome measures pain, strength, reduced activity and general improvement. In summary, strengthening exercise proved to be just as effective as equivalent interventions. However, due to the small amount of high quality randomised studies, these results must be interpreted carefully.
