Abstract

α-Haloalkyl and α-halobenzyl esters have been synthesized using a zinc-based ionic liquid catalyst, BMIZnCl3. These esters can then react with acids without intermediate purification to obtain mixed O,O′-diacyl acetals in a one-pot process.
