Abstract

The utility of myocardial imaging and assessment of regional myocardial metabolism of ω-(¹²³I-paraphenyl-)pen-tadecanoic acid (I-PPA) by means of serial single-photon tomography is demonstrated in animal experiments. High quality cross sectional images of dog hearts with clear delineation of left ventricular walls are obtained. Myocardial infarcts are visualized as areas of deficient radioactivity uptake. I-PPA elimination from non-infarcted myocardial regions is significantly (p < 0.001) prolonged when compared with unaffected controls. Hence, not only localized absence of uptake of free fatty acid by infarcted myocardium can be demonstrated with serial single-photon tomography but also general impairment of cardiac FFA-metabolism.

Es wird über die szintigraphische Darstellung des Herzmuskels und die nicht-invasive Erfassung des myokardialen Stoffwechsels von ω-(¹²³J-Paraphenyl-)Pentadecansäure im Hundeherzen in vivo mit Hilfe der sequentiellen Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT) berichtet. Mit Hilfe dieser Technik können Schichtbilder des linksventrikulären Myokards des Hundes von guter Bildqualität erstellt werden. Akut ischämisches Myokardgewebe ist durch eine fehlende Jodphenylfettsäureaufnähme charakterisiert. Die Radioaktivitätselimination aus Herzmuskelgewebe von Tieren mit akuter Myokardischämie ist im Vergleich zu Kontrolltieren signifikant verzögert (p < 0.001). Mit Hilfe der sequentiellen SPECT ist deshalb nicht nur der topographische Nachweis von akut ischämischen Myokard möglich; darüberhinaus kann mit Hilfe dieser Technik eine generelle Beeinträchtigung der myokardialen Fettsäureoxidation bei Tieren mit akuter Myokardischämie nachgewiesen werden.
