Summary

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) may serve as a new antidepressant treatment. The related published studies however studied few patients and used heterogenic stimulation parameters. Despite mostly a statistically significant effect is reported, the clinical effect is moderate. This review summarizes recent meta-analyses and proposes a multicentric study. Without such a study the question of a clinically meaningful antidepressant effect of TMS won’t be answered.
