Radioiodine Uptake Values in Euthyroid, Non-Goitrous, Prepubertal Children in Greece

La fixation thyroïdienne du ¹³¹I a été mesurée en 50 enfants non-goitreux agés de 2 à 12 ans (17 masculins, 33 féminins). Les valeurs de fixation des enfants grèques (l’erreur standard ± pour les deux sexes était 38,8 ± 1,81; 59,1 ± 2,17; 60,2 ± 2,16 à 3, 24 et 48 heures) sont les plus élevées rapportées jusqu’à maintenant das la litérature donnant preuve à la pénurie de l’iode dans notre pays. Une autre manifestation de la pénurie de l’iode était l’observation, que dans 41% des enfants prépubertaires les valeurs PB ¹³¹I à 48 heures étaient plus élevées que la limite supérieure normale de 0,4% par litre.

Les enfants féminines montraient des valeurs de fixation significativement (P < 0,05) plus élevées que les masculins avec un taux de différence des valeurs moyennes de 1,34; 1,19; et 1,15 à 3, 24 et 48 heures.

Summary

Thyroidal uptake of 1311 was measured in 50 euthyroid, non-goitrous Greek children aged 2-12 years (17 males and 33 females).

The ¹³¹I uptake values of Greek children (mean ± standard error for both sexes of 31.8 ± 1.81, 59.1 ± 2.17 and 60.2 ± 2.16 at 3, 24 and 48 hrs respectively) are the highest recorded so far in the literature, a manifestation of the prevailing iodopenia in our country. Another manifestation of the iodopenia was the finding that in 41% of the prepubertal children the PB¹³¹I values at 48 hours were larger than the upper normal limit of 0.4 per cent of the dose/liter.

Female children had significantly higher (P < C 0,05) uptake values than male ones, the ratio of the mean values for females to the mean value for males being 1.34, 1.19 and 1.15 at 3, 24 and 48 hrs respectively.

Prepubertal children had significantly higher (P < C 0,05) uptake values than postpubertal ones, this difference being most pronounced in females, in whom the mean ¹³¹I uptake for the age group 12-20 was 30.5, 17.4 and 16.2% lower at 3, 24 and 48 hrs respectively, in comparison with the mean of the prepubertal age group.

Es wurde die Schilddrüsenspeicherung von ¹³¹J bei 50 (17 männlichen und 33 weiblichen) euthyreoten, präpubertären, kröpf losen griechischen Kindern im Alter von 2 bis 12 Jahren gemessen.

Die ¹³¹J-Speicherwerte bei griechischen Kindern (Mittelwert ± Standardfehler für beide Geschlechter: 31,3 ± 1,81, 59,1 ± 2,17 bzw. 60,2 ± 2,16 nach 3, 24 bzw. 48 Std.) sind die bisher höchsten, in der Literatur bekannten Werte, ein Symptom des in unserem Land herrschenden Jodmangels. Ein weiteres Symptom des Jodmangels war die Beobachtung, daß bei 4 1% der präpubertären Kinder der PB¹³¹ J-Wert nach 48 Std. höher war als die obere Grenze des Normalen von 0,4%> der Dosis pro Liter.

Weibliche Kinder zeigten signifikant (P <C 0,05) höhere Speicherwerte als die männlichen; das Verhältnis zwischen weiblichen und männlichen Mittelwerten betrug 1,34, 1,19 bzw. 1,15 nach 3, 24 bzw. 48 Std.

Die Speicherwerte waren vor der Pubertät signifikant (P <C 0,05) höher als nach der Pubertät, wobei der Unterschied bei den weiblichen Kindern deutlicher war; in der Altersgrenze 12—20 war der mittlere Speicherwert um 30,5, 17,4 bzw. 16,2% (nach 3, 24 bzw. 48 Std.) niedriger als der Mittelwert der präpubertären Altersgruppe.
