Summary
The neurobiology of violence and aggression is poorly understood. A lot of neurochemical, neuroanatomical and neurofunctional factors have been described to be involved in the genesis of violence. Most of the results are heterogeneous, others have been replicated. The following article gives an overview on recent neurobiological findings on violence and aggression. In particular, neurochemical findings and genetical influences on aggressive behaviour are outlined. In the following chapter, a neurobiological approach on violence is given knowing very well that the conditions of violence are multifactorial and that neurobiology is just one part of the influencing factors of aggression.
