„Ich fahr´ auf die Brücke!”

Zusammenfassung

Sicherheitszäune haben sich als effektive Präventionsmaßnahme von Suiziden durch Sprung von Brücken erwiesen. Wir berichten vom Erleben einer Patientin, die sich nach Errichtung des Sicherheitszaunes an einer Autobahnbrücke durch einen Sprung von dieser Brücke das Leben nehmen wollte. Der Zaun wurde von der Patientin als effektives Hindernis für einen Sprung von dieser Brücke erlebt. Die Patientin sah keine Möglichkeit den Zaun zu überwinden und kehrte zum Autobahnparkplatz zurück, wo sie von der Polizei in die Klinik zurückgebracht wurde. Angesichts des steigenden Anteiles der Suizide durch Sprung aus großer Höhe sind Sicherheitszäune an Brücken oder anderen „Hot Spots” zur Suizidprävention dringend zu empfehlen.

Summary

Placing safety fences on bridges has turned out to be effective in prevention of suicides by jumping. We report the experience of a patient which wanted to attempt suicide by jumping from a motorway bridge after a safety fence had been established there. The safety fence had been experienced by the patient as effective obstacle to jumping from the bridge. The patient found no possibility to overcome the safety fence and returned to the motorway car park wherefrom she was brought back to the hospital by the police. In view of the increasing proportion of suicides by jumping from a height, the placing of safety fences on bridges or other “hot spots” is recommended as part of a comprehensive suicide prevention.
