Die atraumatische Femurkopfnekrose (aFKN) des Erwachsenen tritt in Deutschland im mittleren Alter mit einer Inzidenz von 5000–7000 pro Jahr auf. Die Ätiologie bleibt häufig ungeklärt. Eine frühzeitige Diagnose ist entscheidend, um konservativen und gelenkerhaltenden Maßnahmen eine Chance zu geben. Spätschäden mit Gelenkdestruktion erlauben in der Regel nur noch den Gelenkersatz.
