Zusammenfassung
Nachdem Barbiturate als Schlafmittel durch weniger toxische Substanzen verdrängt wurden, sind Barbiturat-Intoxikationen sehr selten geworden. Diese Kasuistik beschreibt eine ungewöhnliche, beinahe fatale Barbitalintoxikation durch ein Labor-Reagenz (Veronal-Puffer). Verschiedene Aspekte von Klinik, Diagnostik und Therapie werden skizziert.
Abstract
Barbital – once the first commercially available barbiturate – is no longer used in medical practice. Intoxications with oral barbiturates have become rare. This case report presents a unusual, near fatal barbital intoxication in a young man who ingested a barbital-buffer in suicidal intention. Different aspects of clinical presentation, diagnosis and therapy are outlined.
