James F. Thornton, MD
I want to thank Dr. James F. Thornton for serving as our guest editor for this edition of Seminars in Plastic Surgery and additional authors for their contributions to this very important issue on “Biologic Agents in Plastic Surgery.” James F. Thornton, MD, is a professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Thornton attended UT Southwestern for his medical degree and did his surgery internship from Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Dr. Thornton served 3 years as a United States Navy Flight Surgeon in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
Returning to Dallas, Dr. Thornton completed his general surgery residency at UT Southwestern and went on to complete a fellowship in plastic surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He returned to UT Southwestern in Dallas as a Faculty in Plastic Surgery, where he has remained for the entirety of his career.
Early in his career, Dr. Thornton developed a love for facial reconstruction and built a practice focused primarily on post-Mohs surgery reconstruction. The quality of his work has led dermatologists to seek him out and help him develop one of the busiest practices in the country dedicated to Mohs surgery reconstruction.
Dr. Thornton is actively involved in resident and medical student education at UT Southwestern. He is the author of numerous peer reviewed articles and also published a textbook on Mohs reconstruction. His achievements and professional focus make Dr. Thornton the ideal guest editor for this exciting issue on the application of biologic agents in plastic surgery.
