Zusammenfassung

In der Bundesrepublik Deutschland hat in den letzten Jahren das Interesse an der Suchtakupunktur stark zugenommen. Im Rahmen der stationären Entzugsbehandlung wird die Akupunktur immer öfter eingesetzt, das ambulante Behandlungsangebot beschränkt sich aber bisher nur auf wenige Einzelfälle. Die vorliegende Verlaufsstudie evaluiert ein niedrigschwelliges ambulantes Akupunkturprojekt eines freien Trägers in Hamburg. Die Behandlung wird nach dem NADA-Protokoll durchgeführt. Innerhalb eines achtmonatigen Beobachtungszeitraums wurden 159 Klienten in die Untersuchung einbezogen, was 96 % aller Behandlungsteilnehmer entspricht.

Der Großteil der Klienten nimmt nur an wenigen Akupunktursitzungen teil, nach zwei Wochen ist bereits die Hälfte aus der Behandlung ausgeschieden. Es zeigt sich, dass es unter der Akupunkturbehandlung zu einer Verringerung der Entzugssymptomatik und einer leichten Verbesserung des körperlichen und psychischen Befindens sowie einer Reduktion des Konsums von Alkohol und vor allem Kokain kommt. Aufgrund des großen Anteils an Klienten, die frühzeitig aus der Behandlung ausscheiden, und der damit verbundenen geringen Stichprobengröße kann diese Studie nur vorläufige Aussagen zur Wirksamkeit der ambulanten Suchtakupunktur liefern. Die Ergebnisse sprechen allerdings dafür, dass die Akupunktur insbesondere in der Behandlung von Kokainkonsumenten eine geeignete Maßnahme ist und ihr in Zukunft eine größere Aufmerksamkeit zukommen sollte.

Abstract

The interest in acupuncture treatment for detoxification purposes has increased in Germany during the last few years. This treatment is usually provided in inpatient treatment but only occasionally in outpatient settings. This longitudinal study evaluates a lowthreshold outpatient acupuncture treatment project in Hamburg. The patients are treated according to the NADA-protocol. During 8 months of documentation, 159 patients were included in the study - 96% of all the patients being treated.

The majority participated in only a few acupuncture visits. After 2 weeks, half of the patients no longer participated in the treatment. The study focused on the outcome criteria symptoms of withdrawal, general wellbeing and drug use. The results show a significant decrease of withdrawal symptoms, a slight improvement of the physical and mental state and a reduction of alcohol and cocaine consumption. The most significant changes happened during the first two weeks of treatment. Due to the great number of patients who dropped out soon after the beginning of the treatment, the sample size is rather low. Thus, this study only shows preliminary results for the efficiency of acupuncture treatment for drug and alcohol addicts. However, there is some evidence that acupuncture might be an effective therapy especially for patients with a problematic cocaine use.
