ABSTRACT

Current efforts at autologous fat transfer involve the “mass” transplantation of intact tissue pieces. Such techniques are characterized by unpredictable results. New tissue engineering strategies are now emerging that propose to re-generate tissue via the ex vivo and in vivo manipulation of individual cells on a molecular level. This article reviews some of the frontier aspects and efforts related to the concept of adipose tissue engineering.
