Gezielte Modulation des Immunsystems mit CpG-Oligonukleotiden

Bei der Untersuchung von B-Zellen nach In-vivo-Stimulation mit Antisense-Oligonukleotiden beobachtete Arthur Krieg eine unspezifische Steigerung der Proliferation muriner B-Zellen durch eines seiner Kontroll-Oligonukleotide. Er fand heraus, dass dieser Effekt von einem zentralen Cytidin-Guanosin-Dinukleo-tid (CpG; p: phosphat) abhängt und definierte das aktive »CpG-Motiv« als eine Abfolge von sechs Basen (z.B. bei der Maus: 5′...Purin Purin C G Pyrimidin Pyrimidin...3′) [13].
