ABSTRACT

The addition of tumescent infiltration to liposuction has revolutionized the procedure, enabling multiple areas to be performed while limiting blood loss. However, the uses of large volumes of fluid, lidocaine, and epinephrine have introduced new complications not seen with traditional liposuction. The tumescent technique has been found useful in various reconstructive and aesthetic surgeries, not only of the body but the face as well. Through its ability to minimize blood loss and provide significant pain relief, the tumescent technique has allowed combination procedure, including excisional body contouring and liposuction. Additionally, the cooling properties of the tumescent infusion have allowed the development and increasing popularity of ultrasonic liposuction.
