ABSTRACT

The search for an ideal bone substitute has been ongoing for over a hundred years. Although many different materials, both natural and synthetic, have been used, the ideal material remains elusive. This article presents a brief review of past, present, and future materials that may have applications in reconstruction of the craniofacial skeleton.
