ABSTRACT
Today, the endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms and thoracic aortic lesions such as aneurysms, pseudoaneurysms, traumatic ruptures, and dissections is a therapeutic option that must be considered in all patients. Because of the enormous potential market, many of the major companies that manufacture endovascular devices are involved in the production and distribution of stent-grafts for such treatment, and most of these devices are of good quality. However, no single device can accommodate all lesions in the expected patient population, so that interventionists must be aware of the individual characteristics of each model. Only in this way can they select the stent-graft best suited for each clinical situation. Furthermore, if they know what is available, practioners can select the device that best accommodates the lesions most often demonstrated in their particular patient pool. The interventional team can then complete the learning curve for their chosen device more rapidly and obtain the best overall results. In this review, I attempt to present the technical characteristics and comparative pros and cons of the major devices available on the European market today. This review is intended to serve as a guide in the selection of the best stent-grafts for most of the major indications in the abdominal and thoracic aortic regions.
