Minimally Invasive Osteosynthetic Treatment of Bennett Fractures with Cannulated Screw

Abstract
Several open and closed operative techniques are competing in the treatment of Bennett fractures. During recent years, due to the availability of new implants, screw osteosynthesis has shown advantages, widening the range of indication. After precise closed reduction the fracture is temporarily stabilized by K-wire. The osteosynthesis is performed with a 3.0 mm cannulated screw in lag screw technique. Of 16 patients treated with this technique all fractures healed by bony consolidation. In 12 patients a good to excellent result was achieved, whereas two patients showed fair and further two patients poor results. In the correct indication and precise operation technique the osteosynthesis using the minimal invasive cannulated screw is a good treatment of Bennett fractures.
