Zusammenfassung

Die endodontische Behandlung von Zähnen ist häufig eine komplexe und schwierige Aufgabe für den behandelnden Zahnarzt. Ein schlüssiges endodontisches Konzept ist dabei für den Langzeiterfolg der Therapie von großer Bedeutung. Obwohl alle Bereiche der Behandlung von maßgebender Wichtigkeit sind, ist vermutlich der entscheidenste Teil der Wurzelkanalbehandlung das „Cleaning und Shaping”, die Aufbereitung des Kanalsystems. In diesem Teil wird das Kanalsystem gesäubert und geweitet, der Zugang für antibakterielle und gewebelösende Spüllösungen sowie eventuelle antibakterielle Einlagen geschaffen. Eine ideale Formgebung ist auch für eine perfekte Obturation des Kanalsystems von ausschlaggebender Bedeutung. Die meisten Fehler, die bei der Obturation entstehen, sind häufig auf Fehler des Shapings zurückzuführen.

Summary

During the last decade endodontic therapy went through a fascinating development. The introduction of rotating nickel-titanium-instruments, beside operating microscopes and other new features, enabled the practitioner to create a perfect shape of the root canals. NiTi-Systems make root canal preparation more predictable, more efficient and, if used properly, with less transportation of the canal system. The ProTaper-System (Dentsply/Maillefer - Ballaigues/Switzerland) represents a new generation of NiTi-instruments and was introduced for severly curved and obstricted canals. Compared to other systems, the instruments show completely new design features. These progressive tapered instruments with a new flute design and their clinical use are described in detail in this article.
