Controversy persists concerning the preferred treatment of displaced fractures of the proximal part of the humerus. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the results of intramedullary nailing of these fractures with the Targon PH nail. Between May 2000 and February 2002 we have treated 98 patients with this nail. After 12 months we found good results (Constant-Murley score: 78.4). Compared to the literature we conclude that intramedullary nailing of proximal humeral fractures is a good alternative to other osteosynthesis techniques in this anatomical region.
