Publication History

Publication Date:
10 October 2003 (online)

Capsule endoscopy (CE) has attracted enormous interest in recent years, and a large number of abstracts were devoted to CE in various fields, ranging from the original indication of suspected small-bowel bleeding (SSBB) to possible indications in Crohn’s disease (CD) and other small-bowel diseases. Outcome studies are only slowly beginning to appear, and the use of CE in clinical situations (abdominal pain, diarrhea) rather than in more or less well-defined diseases or ”disease suspicion” situations has yet to be analyzed properly. As in other areas, some groups thought their results were so important that abstracts were submitted to (and accepted by) both the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).
