Zusammenfassung
Derzeitig vorliegende empirische Evidenz stützt die Auffassung, dass die linkshemisphärische Verarbeitung von Sprache sowie die in unterschiedlichen Hirnregionen ablaufende Verarbeitung von Grammatik und Vokabular erst allmählich entstehen. Zu Beginn des Spracherwerbs verarbeiten Kinder sprachliche Information zunächst beidseitig und verarbeiten grammatische und semantische Information nicht in getrennten Lokalisationen. Bei Schädigung der linken Hemisphäre wird Sprache von der rechten Hemisphäre übernommen und nicht dauerhaft schlechter erworben. Eine linkshemisphärische Präferenz für die Übernahme von Sprache scheint jedoch zu existieren. Beim jungen Menschen wird eine sensible Phase für den Erwerb von Sprache angenommen. Jedoch kann deren Terminierung nicht genau bestimmt werden. Eine graduelle Abnahme der Sensibilität für Sprache mit zunehmendem Alter bis zur Adoleszenz ist wahrscheinlich. Die Dauer der sensiblen Phase ist jedoch nicht nur vom Lebensalter bzw. Reifungsprozessen abhängig, sondern auch von der Erfahrung. Ob der Spracherwerb durch Entwicklung in Stufen gekennzeichnet ist, die bei allen Kindern gleich sind, ist eher zweifelhaft. Sprachliches Lernen scheint eher ein graduelles Phänomen zu sein, und individuelle Kinder mögen sich in ihren Spracherwerbsabläufen unterscheiden.
Abstract
Existing empirical evidence suggests that lateralisation of language to the left hemisphere and the processing of grammar and semantics in separate brain regions develop gradually. At the start of language acquisition language is processed in both hemispheres and there are no separate locations for processing grammar and semantics. In case of left-hemispheric lesions language processing is taken over by the right hemisphere. There may, however, be a preference for taking over language by the left hemisphere. It is assumed that there is a ‘sensitive phase’ for acquiring language in young humans. But it is not possible to specify exactly when it terminates. Very probably there is a gradual decline of the sensitivity for language learning up to adolescence. The duration of the sensitive phase is not determined by age, or maturation, alone, but also by experience. It is doubtful whether language acquisition is characterised by stage-like development. Language learning may be better characterised as a gradual process. The course of language learning may be different for indidividual children.
