Publication Date:
15 January 2004 (online)

The authors of this issue of Seminars in Hearing want to share information that gives the reader the understanding and skills necessary to increase efficiency and accuracy of hearing instrument fittings, and reduce remakes and returns.

The articles gathered here cover a wide variety of topics related to custom earmolds and hearing aids. A range of issues related to human ear anatomy, impression taking, and hearing protection also are discussed.

This information should prove useful for all audiologists, for those who actually prescribe and fit hearing aids, and for those who are in research. Even if you are not involved in fitting hearing aids, or fit them only occasionally, the patients you are seeing may already be wearing them. Although they may be coming for more advanced diagnostic testing, they will share their stories of hearing aid discomfort, whistling, or occlusion. After reading this issue, you will be able to recognize the cause and know the remedy!

The information here is presented by outstanding professionals who have shared their time and talent to make this project a success. I sincerely thank them for their contributions.

Enjoy the reading; I am confident your learning experience will be rewarding.
