ABSTRACT
The interventional radiologist plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of liver abscesses. Understanding the various etiologies, diagnostic imaging features, and treatment options for a liver abscess is essential for interventional radiologists to care for their patients. There are several decisions the radiologist must make in the treatment of these lesions including the modality of imaging, the route of drainage, and catheter placement technique. After the drainage is completed, the radiologist is challenged with the task of catheter management, which includes follow-up imaging and length of drainage. This article will explore these issues and present guidelines in percutaneous management of liver abscesses.
