Interventional Radiology Cases from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow: Transcatheter Embolisation of Post-Traumatic Hepatic Artery Pseudoaneurysm and Arterioportal Fistula

Abstract

Percutaneous transcatheter embolisation techniques are being increasingly used in the treatment of post-traumatic bleeding and arteriovenous fistula formation. We describe a case where the technique has been used successfully to treat a combined pseudoaneurysm and arterioportal fistula in the liver of a child following blunt trauma.

Les embolisations percutanées sont des techniques utilisées de plus en plus dans le traitement des hémorragies post-traumatiques et des fistules artérioveineuses. Nous décrivons un cas où la technique a été utilisée avec succès pour traiter l'association d'un pseudo-anévrysme et d'une fistule artério-portale dans le foie d'un enfant, après un traumatisme fermé de l'abdomen.

Resumen

Las técnicas de embolización percutánea con catéter se usan cada vez más en el tratamiento de hemorragias post-traumáticas y fístulas arterio-venosas. Describimos una caso en el que se usó con éxito esta técnica para tratar un pseudo-aneurisma combinado con fístula arterio-portal del hígado en un niño tras un trauma hepático.

Zusammenfassung

Die perkutane Katheterembolisation gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung bei der Behandlung posttraumatischer Blutungen und arteriovenöser Fisteln. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein Fall beschrieben, bei dem diese Technik erfolgreich angewandt werden konnte. Es handelt sich um ein Pseudoaneurysma und eine arterioportale Fistel in der Leber nach einem stumpfen Bauchtrauma.
