Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Cervix: A Case Report

Zusammenfassung

Wir berichten über eine 30-jährige Patientin, die sich mit einer über vier Wochen persistierenden vaginalen Blutung vorstellte. Die histologische Untersuchung ergab ein schlecht differenziertes embryonales Rhabdomyosarkom (Sarcoma botryoides). Die Läsion wurde als Gruppe III klassifiziert gemäß den Kriterien der Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma Study (IRS) Clinical Grouping Classification. Nachdem der Tumor lokal teilweise entfernt worden war, wurde die Patientin einer Radiochemotherapie gemäß dem Protokoll unterzogen, das aus 6 Zyklen mit Vincristine, Adriamycine und Cyclophosphamid (VAC) bestand. Obwohl die primäre Therapie die Chirurgie, gefolgt von einer adjuvanten Chemo- oder Radiotherapie, bleibt, sollte die angemessene Therapie für jede Phase des embryonalen Rhabdomyosarkoms neu definiert werden. Neue Studien sind erforderlich, die unter Berücksichtigung des klinischen Verlaufs und der Prognosefaktoren ein klareres Bild vermitteln.

Abstract

We report on a 30-year-old woman presenting with a four week history of continuous vaginal bleeding. Histopathological examination revealed a poorly differentiated botryoid type of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. The lesion was classified as group III according to the criteria of the Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma Study (IRS) Clinical Grouping Classification. After partial local tumor excision, the patient received radiation with chemotherapy according to a protocol consisting of 6 cycles with vincristine, adriamycin and cyclophosphamide (VAC). Although primary treatment remains surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy or radiation, the appropriate therapy for each stage of an embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma should be redefined and new studies are needed which would focus on the clinical course and take prognostic factors into consideration.
