Einführung: Modelltypen und Modellsystematik

Zusammenfassung

Der Fokus dieses Supplements liegt auf der Modellbildung, die heute als eine der bedeutendsten Methoden der gesundheitsökonomischen Evaluationsforschung gilt. In den folgenden Beiträgen werden die Methodik und Einsatzgebiete der Modellierung, die Bedeutung von Modellen bei Bewertungs- und Erstattungsentscheidungen in verschiedenen Gesundheitssystemen sowie ihre konkrete Anwendung bei Diabetes thematisiert. In dieser Einführung wird zunächst erläutert, warum die angemessene Bewertung von Arzneimitteln und anderen Health Technologies ohne Modellierung kaum noch vorstellbar ist. Danach wird der Modellbegriff definiert und ein kurzer Überblick über verschiedene Modelltypen gegeben. Zuletzt wird ein Hauptkriterium der Qualität und Praktikabilität von Modellen diskutiert: der Kompromiss zwischen Komplexität und Trivialität.

Abstract

The focus of the following supplement lies in the creation of models, which in today's world is considered the quintessence of modern research in health economic evaluations. In the following articles the formal methodology and the field of application of these models, their relevance in quantification and reimbursement policies in diverse health care systems as well as their concrete implementation in the diagnosis of Diabetes, will be dwelled upon. In the opening part the imperative role of these models in the assessment of pharmaceutical products and health technologies will be exemplified. Thereafter follows the definition and a short overview of the different types of models. Lastly, one of the main criteria of the quality and practicability of models will be discussed: the compromise between complexity and triviality.
