Urethral Duplication in Association with Anorectal Malformation

Abstract

Urethral duplication is an uncommon congenital anomaly, not often reported, which may be partial or complete. Anorectal malformations are not as uncommon and they may be associated with a host of associated anomalies. However, the association of urethral duplication with anorectal malformation is rare; this report describes two such cases. In one case the intervening septum could be incised endoscopically and in the other case the duplicated urethra was excised.

Buts: La duplication urétrale est une anomalie congénitale rare. Elle peut être partielle ou complète. Les malformations ano-rectales ne sont pas aussi rares et elles peuvent être associées avec de nombreuses anomalies. Néanmoins, l'association d'une duplication urétrale avec une malformation ano-rectale est rare. Nous décrivons deux cas de ce type. Dans l'un des cas, le septum intermédiaire peut être excisé endoscopiquement; dans l'autre cas, la duplication urétrale a été excisé.

Resumen

La duplicación uretral es una anomalía congénita muy rara y puede ser parcial o completa. Las malformaciones anorrectales no son tan raras y pueden estar asociadas con otras. Sin embargo la asociación de duplicación uretral con malformación anorrectal es rara. Éste artículo describe dos casos. En uno el septo entre ambas uretras pudo ser incindido endoscópicamente y en el otro la uretra duplicada fue extirpada.

Zusammenfassung

Urethrale Doppelbildungen sind selten. Sie können entweder partiell oder vollständig sein. Hingegen sind anorektale Fehlbildungen nicht so ungewöhnlich und sehr häufig mit Begleitfehlbildungen verbunden. Die Kombination beider Missbildungen, nämlich einer Doppelung der Urethra bei gleichzeitigem Vorliegen anorektaler Fehlbildungen, ist hingegen sehr selten. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden zwei solcher Fälle vorgestellt. Bei dem ersten konnte das die beiden Urethras trennende Septum endoskopisch inzidiert werden, im anderen Fall wurde die gedoppelte Urethra exstirpiert.
